Monaro Painted – Linda Albertson

Not a paint by numbers job

The Monaro colours hold their own

Beauty

in subtlety

Stridding through harsh dun-coloured country

Double socked farmer feet

Avoid sandy tussock blades

cutting cold Breath

into cottonwool clouds

that drift against the shadowed lilac hills.

A sky like a marbled kitchen

top swirls above

sheep strewn acres

grey tongues nibble nonchalant

on barely green tips

as woolly grubbiness blurs

into a soft beige landscape.
