The MYOLA HALL – MYOLA THEATRE, was on the south-east corner of Normanby & Hill streets, Yeppoon, Qld. “Pictures” (i.e. films) were originally screened open-air from c.1911 at a location thought to be on or behind where the hall stood, and in the hall from 1920 to 1938. Movietone sound was installed in the hall and the outdoor theatre in 1933. The Myola was a dance and concert venue from 1938, and also served as a wartime dance hall for the almost 80,000 American troops who passed through Yeppoon and its environs on their way to the Pacific battlefields. I remember it as the venue for the annual fancy dress ball that was held by the Yeppoon State School.
