Seeking Oxford Street’s Secret History
In 2013 (35 years after the first Sydney Mardi Gras in 1978), Red Room Poetry ran two events celebrating Oxford Street’s complex and diverse histories. We did a call out for submissions of poems related to specific places, people, and events that occurred somewhere on Sydney’s iconic Oxford St.
Remembering the Places, Faces, and Voices on Oxford Street.
In 1978, the first Sydney Mardi Gras sauntered proud down Oxford Street. To celebrate, over 50 poets wrote new poems remembering the faces, places and moments that make Mardi Gras.
