Legend has it Jean Lambert planted the bamboo that took hold of the river oaks along the Bega River. She is remembered as having a tendency to rub people up the wrong way.
The forest of bamboo along the Bega River at Bridge Street has been there for as long as anyone can remember. Up until this week, it was the stuff of panda dreams.
Growing tall, thick and lush, the invasive species has over-run the naturally occurring river oak community, taking up a space 50 metres wide by 350 metres long.
